Newport County were soon at the top of the table.  The Welsh club then pulled away and remained far ahead of the rest.  The title was won relatively early after which County simply kept on stacking up the points.  the play-off places took rather longer to sort out.

The bottom two looked set for relegation well before the end of the campaign - as did Lewes.  However, a late recovery saw the Sussex side pull clear, leaving Worcester City third from bottom.

Bath City took the second promotion place after beating Woking 1-0 in the play-off final on May 9th.

Promotion to Conference Premier : Newport County and Bath City (via play-offs).

Relegation : Weymouth are definitely down – to the Southern League, while Worcester City have not been relegated from Step 2, but will return to Conference North.  It is not known yet what will happen to Weston-super-Mare as the situation regarding Salisbury City has not been resolved.  If City are demoted from the Conference, then Weston will be reprieved.  Once upon a time everything was decided on the football field.
